The 20th Century Fox and Regency Enterprises presents a sci-fi movie, Aliens in the Attic. It tells about a big family which has decided to spend a vacation in Creek Landing, Michigan. One day when the two older boys have to go to the roof and fix an antenna, they notice a group of aliens which plan to invade the Earth with the use of mind control weapon. Fortunately, it only works on adults, so the teenagers are invulnerable to the weapon and have time to make a defense plan to save the Earth.
The filming was done in January-March 2008 in Auckland, New Zealand. The filmmakers were using an old manor as the main set, but it took $700,000 to have it restored. After all the work on the film was done, several actors had to go back to the place and make some final shooting in April, 2009.
Aliens in the Attic was released on July 30, 2009 in Russia and Malaysia. A day later it came to the United States, Canada and Bulgaria. On August, 12 the movie was presented in the United Kingdom and on September, 3 it was in Australian theatres.
For some critics the Aliens in the Attic seemed to be a “pointless and harmless family adventure” which would satisfy movie-lovers twenty years ago, because now “the bar has been raised for family films”. Many of them also pointed out that the comedy lacked originality and creativity. However, it is a fine children-oriented movie which might fascinate them.
ABC TV is presenting a thrilling sci-fi miniseries, named Impact. Unlike other catastrophe movies this one does not just “send” a meteor to the Earth, but the moon itself is coming to collide with the planet.
It starts like many other science fiction films of this kind: a meteor shower goes through the galaxy and some asteroids hit the moon. Lunar pieces as well as particles of the meteors start entering the Earth atmosphere, but the people believe that the damage is really minimal. Their view changes when weird things start happening. At first these are just cell phone problems and static charges, then it gets worse. Finally, a group of scientists realizes that the changes are caused by moon which has moved to a new orbit. They have to bring it back or the situation might even worsen.
The critics are not very happy about the miniseries. They admit that it might be alright for TV, but Impact does not deserve even the second watch. If you have free time and do not know what to do with it, if you desperately want to watch another sci-fi movie, or if you are one of those who look for flaws in any film, go ahead and watch it. There are many errors in the Impact that they say even an amateur astronomer did not read the script for critiquing… However, somebody might really like it…
The fans of X-Men ran to the movie theatres when they heard about the X-Men Origins: Wolverine because they expected another superhero film in the same genre. To many of them it brought disappointment, because it turned out to be a different kind of film.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine is based on a comics character Wolverine. It is a story about two mutant brothers, who turn to fierce creatures after their childhood psychological trauma. They have been living for 200 years fighting in all wars throughout American history. After one of the brothers quits and decides to have normal life, his brother comes and kills his girlfriend and brutally beats him. Now the first one is ready to return and seek for revenge.
The film had mixed reviews. The critics say that in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine the “2000’s X-Men is almost completely obliterated”. None of them considers the film as a masterpiece, but they qualify it as an “O.K.” part of the X-Men franchise. It has plenty of action and special effects and the main character played by Hugh Jackman is “more sexy” than before. Those who have never seen X-Men, might enjoy the fourth film of the saga, but the fans will find that previous parts were better.
