Enjoy a Few Happy Moments Before The Devil Knows You Are Dead
A thriller where “no one was supposed to get hurt” turned out to be a bloody mess with a dozen of people being killed. People get murdered every few minutes just because of fear or misunderstanding.
The film, directed by Sidney Lumet, received its name due to the Irish proverb: “May you be in heaven a full half hour before the devil knows you’re dead”. And the movie goes by this line again and again: we see only few minutes of a person’s life just before he gets killed for a mistake he made in life.
Before the devil knows you’re dead was premiered in France at the Deauville Festival of American Cinema on September, 6, 2007. A week later it was presented in Toronto at the International Film Festival.
The movie was well accepted by critics. Out of 135 reviews at Rotten Tomatoes, 88% were positive. It was nominated to many awards and won seven, which are AFI Film Award, Boston Society of Film Critics Award for Best Ensemble Cast, Central Ohio Film Critics Association for Actor of the Year, Golden Trailer Award for Best Independent Poster and some others.
Before the devil knows you’re dead grossed over $7 million worldwide.
