Hancock, a New Superhero
Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Iron man, Fantastic Four, Wonder woman… The world has always been searching for perfect people to save it from crime and injustice that rules on the streets of big cities. Vincent Ngo came up with his own version of a superhero, Hancock, who is not loved and accepted by everybody because of his unique way to rescue people’s lives.
Originally the film was named Tonight, He Comes. For years it kept the title, but as soon as the filming began with the final director Peter Berg (many of them tried to work with the project, but had to leave due to various misunderstandings) the film was retitled to John Hancock which later shortened even more to Hancock.
World premiere of the film was held at the 30th Moscow International Festival on June 19, 2008. The audience was impressed and during the time of theatrical releases Hancock beat The Dark Night having collected $228 million in the U.S. and $396.5 worldwide.
An unusual story about an alcoholic superhero could not possibly receive many positive critical reviews. They said that the actors and the director of the film did not understand the idea which was described by the writer. Other critics thought the film had a weak story and a poor performance. However, a few reviewers admitted that Hancock was “refreshing, savvy, fun and fast”.
