The story of the film was based on Jim Stovall’s novel, which sold well all over the country and became a bestseller. However The Ultimate Gift was not very well accepted as a film: the box office collection was really low and the DVD release was a little better.
Due to the low collections on the opening weekend many theatres decided to stop the release and this made the collections even smaller.
Not many critics were impressed by The Ultimate Gift, admitting it was a “common theme”. The most praised thing about the movie was the Abigail Breslin’s acting. The film lovers have already seen this young lady in Little Miss Sunshine (for which the girl was nominated for Academy Award and many other prizes), No Reservations, Definitely Maybe and others. In The Ultimate Gift Abigail is incredible as in her other works.
The movie won Crystal Heart Award in the category: Dramatic film.
