Resident Evil: Extinction – from a Video Game to a Movie

October 17th, 2008

Since 1996 the world was introduced to Resident Evil. The horror video game, made by Capcom for PlayStation was filled up with zombies, monsters, unbelievable creatures and creepy places. An ordinary scary thing captured attention of millions of video game fans.

Later, there have been created several sequels of the game as well as comic books, novelizations, collectables and finally a series of movies. In spite of skeptic critics opinion all the films got popular.

The third part, Resident Evil: Extinction, was made in 2007 and released on September, 21. We see the main character, Alice, whom we know from the previous stories, all by herself in the deserted U.S., because millions of people died killed by T-Virus and the only creatures that she might come across are killer crows, groups of zombies and the monsters deformed by the T-Virus.

The producers of the film were determined in the success of the third part right after Resident Evil: Apocalypse collected $23.7 million just on its opening weekend. Already at that time they were discussion the ideas of Resident Evil: Extinction (at that time this part was named Afterlife). They did a lot of work not only by creating the movie, but by the good advertisement as well: the teaser trailers have been shown everywhere since February (6 months before the movie was released). As a result the $45 million-budget Resident Evil: Extinction collected for its makers $147.7 million worldwide.
